"REFLECTING" Canvas Print
"REFLECTING"---There are circumstances that cause us to reflect back on our lives from time to time and that can be caused by a whole host of things: the birth of a child, a wedding, a family reunion, a job promotion, achieving a goal that was set months or years prior, a graduation, winning first place in a sporting event, etc, these circumstances are to numerous to count. These are all joyous events during a persons life and should cause us to look back and see how blessed we are.
Then there are those circumstances that occur in our lives that are not so joyous. But in order to keep moving we almost have to force ourselves to reflect on these events as well: a divorce, watching a child or parent battle an addiction, a cancer diagnosis, the death of someone whether its suddenly or not, watching someone we love go through something that we are powerless to do anything about, etc. These events are to numerous to count as well.
When we reflect on these difficult moments in relationship to where our lives were and where our lives are at after, is very difficult. These moments can stricken us with so much pain, depression, grief, that to even think about going on with life seems unbearable. But there is hope. Hope through prayer, family, friends and strangers.
This piece is titled "REFLECTING"---the man in this piece is looking over and back on his life after experiencing one of those difficult moments. In this piece that difficult moment was the loss of his wife due to an illness. She passed away at the young age of 39. As this man looks over his life he is deep in thought as seen in his facial expression and the long gaze in his eye. What is he thinking about? What is on his mind? What is he feeling? Where does life go for him after this difficult moment? The eagle feathers he is wearing represent the children him and his wife were blessed with. His hair is kept long and wrapping around him to cover his broken heart.
The tepee is representative of his home life and family. All of that has changed with the passing of his wife. The sun has risen and set many times over the course of his life and he does not know when it will rise or set for the last time on his life. What night will be his last night gazing at the moon and stars he does not know. He does know to cherish each remaining day with his family and friends. He understands every day is a blessing. The two eagle feathers on the tepee pole represent his grandchildren and the single eagle feather on the opposite pole represents the future generations of his family that will come long after he has rejoined his wife. The four feathers on the front of the tepee represent his family who have made their journey Home already, including his wife.
The mountains and the valleys represent the highs and lows that he has gone through already and that he will continue to go through during his life. The flowing river represents the change that has taken place over the course of his life and the change that will occur over the remainder of his life. The wind blowing around the mountains represents the countless memories he has of his wife and the moments they shared together.
The buffalo represents the strength he needs to keep moving forward with his life regardless of what has occurred. The howling wolf represents the longing he has to see his wife again but that day has not yet come. His life is to continue because that is the path that has been laid out for him. The eagle represents the sacredness of his life bestowed upon him by God and the gift of having shared a wonderful life with his wife.
